Things that won't work due to the lack of drivers: I've yet to come across any downloaded or purchased/streamed video or audio format that doesn't play on the Shield using this USB sound card. Everything (games, music players, video players, browsers, etc) works as expected with no or at least not any perceptible delay in audio playback. Stereo, AC3, DTS, Dolby Digital, whatever. It supports passthrough, and I'm using it with my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 sound system (toslink). You can find these as low as 10 euros in computer stores dealing with second hand hardware. ![]() Might be worth checking out if you're looking for a cheap way to get spdif audio on your Shield. The Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External (SB0490) is a rather large and bulky USB device with 5.1 analogue outputs, and both coax and toslink spdif outputs. ![]() I've tried a bunch of inexpensive HDMI/spdif splitters, but unfortunately they all create issues with frame rate changes on my Samsung LCD TV, so in the end I gave up and started looking in my hardware storage to see if I had anything I could use instead.
